Keane wrote in The Sun: “I see some good managers like Alan Curbishley, Glenn Hoddle, Peter Reid and Billy Davies out of work and I can’t understand why someone won’t give them a chance.

“Maybe their agents aren’t as busy as they could be because there are other managers who, almost as soon as they’ve lost one job, fall into another — even if they’ve no track record to speak of.”

UEFA president Michel Platini has jumped to the defence of Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri after his clash with a journalist last week.

Many in the French media were left shocked and disgusted by Nasri’s behaviour and language during the bust-up.

But Platini says calls for a lengthy ban are wrong.

“If I got suspended every time I insulted a journalist I wouldn’t have had many caps,” he said.

“Whether Samir Nasri deserves something? I have heard talk of two-year suspension but that’s absolutely ludicrous.”

Robert Mancini is set to ink new terms with Manchester City.

The Mail on Sunday says Mancini has agreed to a lengthy new contract at Manchester City that will take him past Sir Alex Ferguson in the Premier League managers’ wage table.

Mancini, currently thought to be paid around £5million a year at Eastlands, a similar figure to that of his Manchester United rival, still has a year left on the three-and-a-half year agreement which he signed when appointed in December 2009.

The new figure will take him closer to the £7.2m paid to English football’s highest managerial earner, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano says Manchester City ace Mario Balotelli could be anything – if he gets his head right.

AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano says Manchester City ace Mario Balotelli could be anything – if he gets his head right.

Cassano, 29, is no stranger to controversy himself, having had temperament and fitness issues in the past and has offered his volatile colleague some advice as they prepare to take on Spain in the Euro 2012 final.

“Balotelli is young and still needs to mature. He is also emotive and sometimes his temperament can be his own worst enemy,” he told The Sun on Sunday.

“But he has fire in his stomach and it makes him strong, so you have to be careful how you handle him.

“To tame him would be wrong, though he has to learn to control his emotions and direct them in a positive way. Only he can decide whether he wants it all or whether it all goes to waste.

“I have great empathy with him and know how hard it is, especially when occasionally you think the whole world is against you.

“But at the moment Balotelli is on top of the world, very focused and dreaming of making Italy champions.”

Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer has slammed their performance at the Euros.

Shearer is baffled by the praise The Three Lions received for their battling displays at the tournament in Poland and Ukraine under Roy Hodgson.

He told The Sun Sunday: “If we accept this level of performance, then we have given up on England.

“Have we dropped so far down the pecking order that we are applauding England for trying hard and being well-organised?”

He continued: “I cannot remember the last time the nation celebrated the team getting out of our group.

“That used to be the least that was expected. Now it seems to be a pointer that we are heading in the right direction. Well, we are not. We are getting progressively worse if you look at our performances in the last three major tournaments we qualified for.”
